Dr. Guy A. Lodico is Director of Technology for Plainview-Old  

Bethpage Central School District located in Long Island, New York and  

served as President, Executive Board Member, and Long Island Regional

Director of NYSCATE (The New York State Association for Computers and

Technologies in Education);  Vice President of the POBCSD CAS (Council

of Administrators and Supervisors) and ASA SAANYS (School

Administrators Association of New York) Units; and past Chairman of 

NASTECH (The Nassau BOCES Association of School Technologists). 

Most recently, Dr. Guy Lodico was inducted into the 2015 NYSCATE Hall of Fame in recognition of his tireless service, innovation and leadership leading the transformation of teaching and learning for educators across the state.  In addition, Dr. Guy Lodico became the recipient of the prestigious 2013 LEADERSHIP and SUPPORT AWARD by the School Administrators Association of New York State (SAANYS) in recognition of his outstanding achievements as an educational leader.  He has 24 years' experience in teaching, administration, and supervision and holds a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Concordia University Chicago, a B.S. in Communication Arts from St. John’s University, MS.Ed with a Specialization in Reading, and a P.D. in School Administration & Supervision, consecutively awarded with honors from Queens College. Dr. Lodico is a New York State licensed Reading Specialist (K-12), Public School Teacher (Nursery-6), School District Administrator, School Administrator Supervisor, and holds New York City certification as a Senior Curriculum Development & Coordination Instruction Specialist and Senior Staff Development & Training Instruction Specialist.

    In 1989, Dr. Guy Lodico began his career in education as a teacher at a New York City public school located in one of the most ethnically diverse communities in the United States—P.S.102, Elmhurst, Queens. His vision, established on his signature mantra of "technology" being the "art of communication," was to create seamless child-centric learning environments supportive of classroom instruction, professional development, and parent/community involvement to enable student achievement. 

    As a young educator he was empowered by his extraordinary students, a supportive Parent & Teachers Association, community, and the inspirational leadership  of principal/deputy superintendent, Mr. Harvey Sherer, who recognized, encouraged, and provided him with the opportunity to integrate his individual strengths and creativity inside his classroom. Faced with a multicultural/multilingual student population comprised of over sixty nations, Dr. Lodico became an early pioneer in the research and development of integrated teaching/learning strategies based on the efficacy of the arts and technology.       

     Inside his model classroom, students possessing various degrees of identified and unidentified learning modalities were empowered by a multi-sensory pathway to literacy and learning. Via an “Electronic Chalkboard” and multimedia-enriched instructional activities, Dr. Guy Lodico helped engender the development of his students' reading, math, cooperative learning, critical and higher order thinking skills as he challenged them — via the efficacy of technology — to construct / deconstruct knowledge and create meaning out of interactive/adaptive software applications, projected images, sound / music, voice recognition, and text; including speech-to-text and text-to-speech applications.

     Dr. Guy Lodico's students’ work gained national attention with the development of three multimedia health/drug awareness instructional learning kits produced in collaboration with the American Cancer Society, Heart & Lung Associations’ media acclaimed “Smoke-Free Class of 2000” and Perdue’s “First Facts About Food.”  Each learning kit became part of the curriculum in over 72,000 schools nationally.  The affirmative assessment results of his model program implementations led to his continued commitment and leadership in strategically  planning for Educational Technology initiatives to help transform teaching and learning to support student achievement.

Dr. Guy Lodico's collaborative development of  a strategic multi-year plan yielded his successful design and implementation of the “Classroom of the 21st Century” and “Reading Through Music & Technology” literacy development program which earned him accolades for leadership and innovation from N.Y.C. Mayor Rudolph Giuliani and Chancellor Rudy Crew.   His work led to P.S.102Q's selection by the AASA (American Association of School Administrators) as one of twenty-one schools nationwide to be identified as a "Gravity Breaking School" for innovation and technology as a result of the Council of 21's 1998-99 Delphi Study, Senator John Glenn, Honorary Chair.

Dr. Guy Lodico's creation of a student/teacher produced educational programming series, broadcast weekly via Time-Warner and Cablevision’s public access television networks, served as a “vital community information link” designed to help "communicate" more effectively with parents/community members; reinforce school pride, student self-esteem and academic achievement; gain additional funding/support from equipment/software manufacturers, and establish cultural institution collaborations.

       As District Instructional Technology Specialist Coordinator for Community School District 24, Dr. Guy Lodico served on the N.Y.C. Board of Education’s planning team for the research and development of its “Strategic Five-Year Technology Plan” and coordinated the implementation of N.Y.C. Council Grant awarded computers; the development of instructional technology core-curriculum infusion benchmarks, and professional development workshops for twenty-seven NYC public schools.  He spearheaded the vision, design and implementation of NYC's first model LAN and PBX installation integrating data, voice, and bi-directional CCTV/Videoconferencing capabilities to facilitate professional development and grade articulation opportunities from virtually any classroom location.   He co-developed/produced a “Fine Arts Core Curriculum” [in collaboration with his colleague, Mr. Mark Conn, and museum partners: The Asia Society; The Whitney Museum of Art; Young Audiences; and The Queens Museum of Art] which was awarded a prestigious $350,000 N.Y.C. Partnership for Arts & Education Annenberg Foundation Grant — as part of an initiative to promote school reform.

     Serving as Director of Technology for Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District—faced with the challenge of re-building the district’s entire technology infrastructure and support model — Dr. Guy Lodico continues to lead the district-wide restructuring, design and implementation of instructional and administrative technology-based plans and initiatives aimed at enhancing student achievement and transforming teaching and learning.  

     From classroom to Board Room, in collaboration with his dedicated staff and district-wide technology teams, Dr. Guy Lodico’s passion for cultivating the critical “triangle of success” between teacher/staff, student, and parent/community, keeps him focused on his bottom line — “how technology affects the life, education, health and safety of children.” 

     The confluence of Dr. Guy Lodico's creative budgetary, strategic planning, pedagogical and technical  experience — from his cost effective LAN/WAN infrastructure design/installations; research and implementation of emerging data management information system solutions for financial/human resources and student information; facilitation of data-driven decisions via Data Warehousing; web-based resource applications, professional development, videoconferencing initiatives, and ongoing curricula-driven teaching/learning environment implementations based on the concepts of his originally designed model "Classroom of the 21st Century," and  advocacy for child-safety in this ever-evolving field of Educational Technology — resonate throughout his past presentations at organizations including the National School Boards Association; New York State School Boards Association; Council of Superintendents; New York State Association for Computers & Technologies in Education; SCOPE; BOCES; The United Nations American Forum For Global Education & The NY Chapter of the Fulbright Alumni Association; NYC Comptroller’s Cultural Advisory Council.

             Dr. Guy Lodico's leadership extends across the state with his service as President and Executive Board Member/Long Island Regional Director of NYSCATE  (The New York State Association for Computers & Technologies in Education); Vice President of The Plainview-Old Bethpage Council of Administrators and Supervisors (CAS) and ASA SAANYS (School Administrators Association of New York) Units; and Chairman of NASTECH (Nassau BOCES Association of School Technologists) from 2005 to 2007; Co-Chairman of the NYSCATE Technical Support Conference Committee from 1999 to 2004, and Program/Session Committee member and presenter beginning in 1997; Vice-Chairperson and Co-founder of the Long Island Chapter of the Association of Computer Machinery’s SIGGRAPH organization from 1999 to 2002; past Advisory Council Board Member of the NYIT (New York Institute of Technology) Education & Leadership Program and facilitation of a Tech Ambassador Student Exchange Program where college students were partnered with his in-district teachers to co-develop instructional technology strategies.     

      For his exemplary record of excellence and leadership in education and transformational impact on diverse educational populations/cultures he has helped move via the efficacy of technology, Dr. Guy Lodico was most recently inducted into the 2015 NYSCATE Hall of Fame and honored in 2013 for his Leadership in Education by the School Administrators Association of New York State (SAANYS). He was granted a Proclamation from the New York State Senate in 2008, and was chosen as a Class of 2007 Associate Member of the esteemed American Society of the Italian Legions of Merit; Technology & Learning's 2006 Leader of the Year Semifinalist; the 2006 New York State Association for Computers & Technologies in Education nominee for the esteemed ISTE (International Society in Technology Education) "2006 Outstanding Leader Award." 

     Dr. Guy Lodico was the recipient of the prestigious "NYSCATE 2005 Lee Bryant Outstanding New York State Technologist Award" at the 40th Annual Conference for the New York State Association for Computers & Technologies in Education held in Albany, New York; received an honorary citation from the  New York State Nassau County Legislature and was bestowed lifetime membership in the National PTA as the Plainview-Old Bethpage PTA Council's 2005 Founder's Day Award recipient.   In 2001, he was awarded an honorary citation from the New York State Nassau County Executive’s Office and designated Educator of the Year by the AIAE [Association of Italian American Educators].   Guy Lodico is most proud of his multiple-year national recognition in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers - nominations that came from his former students.
